About Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh

Heriot-Watt University is a product of the Scottish Enlightenment. A pioneer in bringing education to working people in 1821 and founder of a global movement through the creation of the world's first Mechanics Institute. Heriot-Watt is a university with global presence and a visionary international strategy. Since the early 1990s, they have built sustainable academic partnerships with institutions across the globe from the US to the Ukraine and from China to Trinidad and Tobago. They continue to push new frontiers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, business, and design.

The university, one of Scotland's most international universities having around a third of their students from outside, have 5 campuses and 150 learning partners around the world. Many of their students get the chance to transfer their study to campuses in Dubai and Malaysia through their Go Global inter-campus exchange programme.

The Scottish Borders campus is built around an historic mill and recently received a multi-million-pound refurbishment to create an inspiring learning environment with computer suites, specialised workshops and spacious studios. The unrivalled facilities ranges from craft through industrial to cutting-edge advanced technologies and includes the largest knit and weave studios and longest screen-print table in Europe.

Location

Heriot-Watt Orkney is one of the UK's most stunning and unique university locations. Set in the picturesque harbour of Hamnavoe and Scapa Flow, for over 25 years the campus has supported a broad range of research, teaching and consultancy activities within the marine, oil and gas, and fisheries sectors.

Facilities

Based in the town of Stromness, this specialist campus is home to the International Centre for Island Technology (ICIT), part of Heriot-Watt's prestigious School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society. The Orkney campus offer various specialist facilities which include laboratories, computer room, video-conferencing capabilities and much more.
